    Travel the Mother Road: Arizona

We are coming to a close with our Travel the Mother Road Series. With just two states left, we hope you enjoyed all of the crazy, unique and sometimes boring things that are still available to do and see along the Route 66 highway.

This week we will feature attractions in Arizona that would have been avialable on the road. Unlike some states that the road went through with ghost towns and weird attractions, Arizona has some amazing things to do! Here are just some of the cool things you can see in Arizona along the Mother Road.

    Meteor Crater

Arizona is a hotbed for prehistoric findings. This Meteor Crater site can be found 40 miles from Flagstaff and is one of the cooler things to see on Route 66. What makes it so fascinating is that you can see just how much damage a meteor could do if one were to hit Earth. Everyone always warns us, but now to actually see what a meteor strike looks like makes you wonder.

Scientists have estimated that this crash is more than 50,000 years old and when it hit, had a stronger impact than the atomic bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In addition, the meteorite weighed about 300,000 tons at impact and displaced millions of tons of rocks. This is a great place for families and anyone interested in space or historical findings.

    Flagstaff

Flagstaff Arizona is home to a very different type of Arizona climate. While most people think Arizona is just one big desert, Flagstaff offers a mountainous, cool climate with tons of great activities.

If you like being outdoors, Flagstaff is a great town for you. There is plenty of camping, hiking and more with a ton of places to do so! One of the cooler spots to hike is Humphrey's Trail. This trail is pretty tough, but offers amazing views and takes you up to the highest point in the state!

If you want to hang around town, Flagstaff offers tons of cool boutique shops and an old town feel. Regardless of what you and your crew like to do, you will find something in Flagstaff.

    Petrified Forest National Park

Although the name sounds weird, this National Park is one of the most unique national parks in the country! Located near Holbrook, Arizona, Petrified Forest National Park is a place where Dinosaurs once roamed and is home to some of the most incredible fossils that have ever been discovered.

Although it is not a forest, don't leave because you will miss out on tons of cool features. Hike through the park and discover large amounts of petrified wood and tons of cool scenery.
